What’s On: September 2009

Only two months left for Can’t Stop the Serenity 2009! The last cities have signed up and we’ve grown to 55 cities this year in seven countries. If you’ve already been to an event this year, we’d love to hear your stories. You can use our Forum or email our Global Communications Team at jen@cantstoptheserenity.com and we’ll add them for you. You can also add your photos to our Global Photo Pool at Flickr. And if you haven’t yet experienced the fun and excitement of a Can’t Stop the Serenity event, there’s lots in store in September! UPCOMING EVENTS…

Ann Arbor, MI US – 5 September (Serenity & Dr Horrible)
Can’t Stop the Serenity comes back to the Michigan Theater on 5 September, this time with Dr. Horrible! Doors open at 11:30am, and the fun will begin at 12pm (ending around 2:45pm). In addition to screening two of Joss Whedon’s masterpieces, there will also be prizes to win in the auction and raffle, including items autographed by Joss Whedon and Dichen Lachman (Sierra on Dollhouse). Advance tickets are available now at TicketWeb, and can also be purchased at the door on 5 September. Tickets: Adult – $15.00 / Student with ID – $12.00. All proceeds benefit Equality Now.

Adelaide, SA Australia – 11 September (Dr Horrible) – Affiliate Event
Fans in Adelaide will get to see Dr Horrible in all his glory on the big screen at Adelaide’s CSTS Affiliate event at the Union Cinema, Adelaide University. Doors will open at 5:30pm and the event will run until 8:45pm. Tickets will be available at the door, and cost $5 for Tronicle and Film Association members and $10 for non-members. Don’t forget to enter the raffle for your chance to win CSTS 2009 merchandise, script of the unaired Firefly episode – “Dead or Alive”, Buffy, Angel, and Spike comics, Twilight Film Cell, Dr Horrible DVD, Firefly Visual Companion vol I and more. Raffle Tickets will be $2 each, and discounts will apply for multiple ticket purchases. The event will also be holding a Browncoat Appeal for winter clothing.

Hamburg, Germany – 13 September (Serenity & Dr Horrible)
Wer Lust auf Filmgucken, Spaß haben und Gutes tun hat ist am 13.09.09 richtig aufgehoben: Can’t stop the Serenity findet im Rahmen der Science-Fiction Convention “Zellaktivator Con” statt. Dort erwartet euch u.a. eine Versteigerung, ein “Punch the Reaver”-Spiel, lustige Raffelei etc. Anschließend führen wir Euch zur “Makrele” (www.makrele.org), wo die Aftershowparty stattfindet. Veranstaltungsort: Eidelstedter Bürgerhaus – Alte Elbgaustraße 12, Hamburg. Datum & Zeit: 13.09.09 um 18 Uhr. Ticketpreise: 6,50 EUR VVK/ 8 EUR AK. Veranstalter: www.myspace.com/hamburg_serenity. For those of you who don’t speak German, CSTS Hamburg will take place as part of the Zellaktivator Convention. In addition to screening Serenity (in english) and Dr Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, you can also bid in the Auction, play “Punch the Reaver” and more! The event takes place at Eidelstedter Bürgerhaus – Alte Elbgaustraße 12, Hamburg from 6pm. Tickets are 6,50 EUR VVK/ 8 EUR AK. There will be an afterparty at Makrele. Salem, MA US – 15 & 19 September (Dr. Horrible) – Affiliate Event
Cinema Salem will be holding more screenings of Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog as Affiliate CSTS Events. The first event in June raised $304 for Equality Now, so bring your evil laugh back to the heart of Salem for a night of sing-along fun for a good cause!

Tucson, AZ US – 17 September (Serenity & Dr Horrible)
It’s time for some Serenity in Tucson! CSTS Tucson will be taking off at The Loft Cinema at 6:30pm. The event will include a screening of Serenity along with Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, as well as a shadowcast of Dr. Horrible by the Vampire Bunny Slayers (think Rocky Horror style, only better). There will also be costume contests and raffles, so get into character and be prepared for some fun! Tucson will once again give 20% of its intake to the Women’s Foundation of Southern Arizona. Tickets are $8, and are now available from The Loft Cinema by phone on (520) 795-0844 or at the cinema. The event is hosted by the Arizona Browncoats and you can read more about it here. Phoenix (Tempe), AZ US – 19 September (Serenity & Dr. Horrible)
The Arizona Browncoats are pulling out all the stops for CSTS Phoenix! This year, there will be two events, at 12:45pm and 4:30pm. All the fun takes place at MADCAP Theaters in Tempe. Both events will include a screening of
Serenity along with Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, as well as a costume contest and raffle, so dress to impress! Tickets are $10, and will be available online through MADCAP Theaters or at the door. Proceeds will be donated to Equality Now, and Phoenix, $1 from every ticket sold will be returned to MADCAP Theaters, the new non-profit community theater hosting our event. Bristol, UK – 25 September (Serenity & Dr. Horrible)
Plan for a whole weekend of Browncoat fun in Bristol, with Can’t Stop the Serenity plus the British Browncoat Ceilidh! Serenity and Dr Horrible will screen on Friday 25 September at Mickey Lavins on Denmark Street. Doors open at 7pm and the event kicks off at 7:30pm. Tickets for the CSTS event cost just £5 each. You can also support Equality Now by attending the Browncoat Ceilidh. In association with the Bristol Fantasy and SF Society, the Browncoat Ceilidh will include a mini-convention at the Mercure Holland House Hotel & Spa and will cost just £20. There will be special guests, panels, and dealers, with the Firefly themed shindig on Saturday evening. All profits from the Browncoat Ceilidh will be donated to Equality Now. Cambridge, MA US – 26 September (Dr. Horrible) – Affiliate Event
Fans in Cambridge will be out in force as Dr Horrible comes to town! CSTS Cambridge is an Affiliate event, organised by the same folks who have been hosting Affiliate events in Salem, MA. The event will take place at the AMC Loews Harvard Square 5, 10 Church St, Cambridge, MA 02138 – (617) 864-4581. So bring your evil laugh back to Cambridge for a night of sing-along fun for a good cause!

Atlanta, GA US – 27 September (Serenity)
The Atlanta Browncoats are at it again, and are gearing up for their most CSTS successful event yet! We’ll be shindiggin’ at the Atlanta Plaza Theatre from 6:00pm, with Serenity starting at 7pm. There will be lots to see and do, with a range of CSTS merchandise and local vendors on hand, a Silent Auction and Prize drawing. Tickets cost $15, but if you get in before 8 September, you can grab an early bird discount of 2 for $20! Buy one regularly priced ticket at $15 and get a second ticket for just $5 more. That’s right! Bring a friend along for just $5 more! Profits from the screening will be donated to Equality Now and the Atlanta Community Food Bank. This year we’re asking everyone to bring canned food items to donate for our Serenity Screening Food Drive to benefit the Atlanta Community Food Bank. For every canned good you bring you will receive and extra prize drawing ticket!

Can’t Stop the Serenity 2009 runs through until 31 October so there’s still lots of ways you can help us reach our goal of raising $150,000 for Equality Now.
