We celebrate Joss’s birthday in a big way

When CSTS got started all the events were on or near Joss Whedon’s birthday, June 23. Some cities still hold their events that weekend.

First up on Friday is Lawrence, Kansas who are back with a screening. The ticket price has been lowered to only $8.00 but there is additional content with Felicia Day’s The Guild, Season 1 being shown.

Saturday June 22 has 4 screenings! Pittsburgh is back with their 8th screening. It’s in a new location, Off The Wall Theater in Carnegie, PA. This year they are asking for donations at the door rather than selling tickets in advance and are requesting $5.00 – $10.00. They have 2 silent auctions, games, raffles and of course, Serenity. After 7 previous screenings, you can be sure they know how to have a good time!

Boston is also back for their 8th year. Although it isn’t part of the event, Much Ado About Nothing is screening in the same theatre earlier in the evening.
Why not make a full evening of it? The New England Browncoats will be collecting for Equality Now at both Much Ado screenings that evening.

In addition to raising money for Equality Now, they will also be collecting non-perishable food items
for Rosie’s Place, a sanctuary for poor and homeless women that offers emergency and long-term assistance to women. Anyone that brings a donation will be eligible for raffle prizes.
Tickets are $15.00 in advance and $20.00 at the door.

The Alberta Browncoats hold their screening in Edmonton on June 22 as well. As always they have some very shiny auction items. It helps to live in the Captain’s hometown! New this year is singer songwriter Vanessa Cardui who wrote fan favourite “That Hat Makes You Look Like An Idiot”. She will be performing that afternoon before Serenity is shown. A professional photographer will be on hand to help you mark this special day.

Rounding off this busy Saturday is Denver who are also celebrating 8 years running CSTS screenings. This year it is at a new location, the SIE FilmCenter. Among it’s other good points, it has a full bar, so a shindig in honor of Joss’s birthday is planned!

The Costume Contest will have 2 winners, one chosen by the other attendees and the other by the CSTS crew. And of course, like all the other events this weekend, Serenity will be shown.

On Sunday, Portland are running their 8th year with a showing of Serenity and Dr. Horrible’s Singalong Blog.
Anyone who buys their tickets in advance can get in at 12:30 for a special show of NerdFight. Doors open for day of sale tickets at 1:30. A Costume Contest and raffles round out the event.
