The Kentucky Browncoats are bringing the fun in on the 5th October!

The Kentucky Browncoats are bringing a whole heap of fun to the Kentucky Theatre, Lexington on October 5th for their Can’t Stop the Serenity event.

Doors open at 6pm for Shindig Mingle Bingo, cosplay previews and a Jayne-worthy singalong then at 7pm Captain Nyorissa Kel will do an intro from the Jiu Hai Shen. There is also a costume contest and from 7:30 they’re showing the BDM itself.

When asked about her motivation for being involved in Can’t Stop the Serenity, organiser Ria said “ The Kentucky Browncoats originally started in 2009, but had been fairly inactive when I found it at the end of April of this year. My family and I moved to Kentucky from Florida in May and I was networking in the area online via social media prior to the move. I ran across the Kentuckiana Bowncoats on Facebook and saw they were looking for a new admin so I dove in.

Within the first couple of weeks, I changed the name to the Kentucky Browncoats; Indiana already had their own group so I wanted to differentiate. I set us up on social media and started designing an identity. I’ve been an illustrator, writer, and designer (graphic, book, recovering web) for 30 years under the name Renmeleon and I love branding. The Kentucky Browncoats now has a logo, a website, a t-shirt design, a consistent social media presence (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest – all KYBrowncoats) and I’m working on swag for our first CSTS event October 5th in Lexington at the historic Kentucky Theater that was built in the 1920s.”

Sounds like Ria has been busy but not as busy as she plans to be next year – she adds “I have been doing all of it solo this year, but already have plans for 2017 to bring on a few to help me make it the equivalent of a small Con. I’m having a blast though and don’t consider it work. Any project that allow me to bring all of my skill sets into play is magic for me.
I’m thrilled to be involved with CSTS and our local charities in our new home and look forward to big things to come.”
