This weekend is going to get pretty interesting in Adelaide

Adelaide will be holding their second CSTS event on Saturday 8th October. This year they’ve been lucky enough to have donated space so will be showing Dr Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog as well as holding a raffle and cosplay competition then finishing off with the BDM.

Organiser Emma says “The very generous people at the Palace Nova cinema in the middle of the city have donated a screen to our event so we were able to get the approval to show Dr Horrible fairly easily. We’re going to be handing out interactive bags to all the Browncoats on the day – we’ve billed it as Joss Whedon meets Rocky Horror and we’re very confident that it will be a lot of fun!”

“We have some amazing raffle prizes thanks to some awesome donations from bigger organisations such as Supanova and Oz Comic Con down to individual Browncoats who have offered personal items or things they have created themselves, like the awesome Serenity cufflinks made by Get Your Geek On.”

“Then we’ll be finishing off the afternoon with a showing of the BDM.”

There is a crew of 9 organising this year’s event and when asked about their motivation for being involved the responses included “Despite 14 years after its untimely demise in 2002 I still find myself drawn to an amazing TV show and an amazing community that keeps the passion of Firefly and Serenity alive” and “I love having the opportunity to support great charities while hanging out with other browncoats and watching an awesome movie.”

The fun starts at 12.30pm and it will all be over (bar the inevitable tears) by 5.30pm.

All profits from the afternoon will be split between Equality Now and local charity Essentials for Women SA.

Essentials 4 Women SA aims to provide all women with the basic, but costly, items for feminine hygiene including sanitary products and underwear. Limited access to sanitary products means these women are often forced to choose between buying sanitary products or other essential items like food for their children. They help women (and men) who are homeless, at risk of becoming homeless or victims of domestic violence. Basically anyone who has little or no income.
