What’s On This Week: 26-30 June

We’ve had an amazing week of events, and there’s more on the horizon! So head over to your nearest event for a chance to have a great time and support a great cause… Equality Now.

THIS WEEK’S EVENTS…

Baltimore, MD US – 26 June (Serenity)
Fans across Maryland are invited to attend the very first CSTS event in Baltimore! Head on over to Hoyt’s West Nursery Cinema 14 (1591 W Nursery Rd, Linthicum) for a great night of Serenity for a great cause. The event will include a raffle with some fantastic prizes. The fun begins at 10pm. Tickets are just $12 and are available from the cinema.

Arlington, VA US – 27 June (Serenity & Dr. Horrible) – SOLD OUT
The NoVA Browncoats are back and this year may be the best yet! If you’re already got your tickets, then you’re set for a great afternoon at the Arlington Cinema ‘N Drafthouse. As well as Serenity and Dr. Horrible on the big screen, there will be costume competition so put on your best duds for some great prizes. You can also bid for a range of goodies in the auction, including items autographed by Joss Whedon and Adam Baldwin (Paypal accepted). Doors open at 12:30pm for a 1pm start. You’ll want to arrive early to get good seats! All proceeds to benefit Equality Now, Kids Need to Read, and the Al Wooten Jr. Heritage Center.

Charlotte, NC US – 27 June (Serenity & Dr. Horrible)
Fans in Charlotte are in for a treat at this year’s event! Taking place from 5-10pm at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Charlotte this event is both a screening and shindig, with activities will be spread out into two separate rooms. The Sanctuary, with stadium seating and oversized screen will be the place to see our Big Damn Movie and our friends in costume. Across the hall in the multi-purpose room is where dinner and snacks will be served. Then sit down to enjoy a musical performance. Peruse the tables filled with prizes and merchandise. There will be plenty of room and plenty to do. And did we mention prizes? There are so many prizes, including a Dollhouse poster autographed by Eliza Dushku, Tahmoh Penikett & Joss Whedon autographed Dollhouse poster. Check out more prizes here. Shindig all-inclusive pass costs just $10 Adult / $7 Child (under 4 is free, no ticket needed). This includes live performance by Spot, costume contest, weighted drawing, additional screenings of Firefly-related media. Admission to Serenity screening is free of charge. (Shindig admission begins at 5pm).

Daytona Beach, FL US – 27 June (Serenity)
CSTS Daytona Beach will be taking place from 12pm to 5pm at the OceanWalk Theaters 10. The movie will start around 1pm. After that we’ll have the costume contest and the always amazing raffle. Doors open at noon, so that first hour is yours to peruse the arcade, shop for pretties from our vendors, or just speak your piece with other folk! Tickets are $13 and are available on the day (cash and Paypal accepted). Also, why not bring your loose change to help that little bit more? The “Got Change, Make Change” jar will be roaming around, so be sure to bring those discarded pocketfuls of coins and it will be donated to Equality Now at day’s and after being turned to cashy money! Seriously, you always glare at them anyways, why not bring them to Daytona for a road trip? It’s every coins’ dream.

Denver, CO US – 27 June (Serenity & Dr. Horrible)
Join us for a shiny evening full of good works and good fun! The Mile High Browncoats invite you to a very special screening of Joss Whedon’s Serenity and Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog to benefit Equality Now. The place to be is the Starz FilmCenter at the Tivoli (900 Auraria Parkway). Now showing on 2 screens, with only 56 tickets remaining! Doors open at 4:30pm (click here for the full schedule), with an after-shindig at Old Chicago. Tickets are $15.00 per person in advance, and includes admittance to all events and 1 prize drawing ticket. There are some amazing prizes up for grabs, so don’t miss out on your chance to attend this year’s fantastic event!

Ft Lauderdale, FL US – 27 June (Serenity & Dr. Horrible)
It’s CSTS time once again in Ft. Lauderdale! Our event this year takes place at Cinema Paradiso, starting at 7pm. Festivities will include a raffle, as well as door prizes and souvenir sales. Also this year we are opening the costume contest up to include a Whedonverse category. Dress up as your favorite character from any Whedonverse show/movie for your chance to win! Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door (pre-sales available at online at the theater’s website. All proceeds from the screening will be donated to Equality Now and The Humane Society.

Philadelphia, PA US – 27 June (Serenity)
The 2009 Philadelphia Can’t Stop the Serenity event will be held on Saturday, June 27 from 7-11 pm at the Philadelphia Senior Center (509 South Broad Street). We are very pleased to announce that the Terrifying Space Monkeys will be our special musical guests this year! This year’s activities will also include Whedonverse quizzo, a costume contest, a raffle drawing and door prizes, and of course, a screening of Serenity. It’ll be a shiny good time! There are a range of Ticket Packages available, starting at $12.50.

Portland, OR US – 27 June (Serenity & Dr. Horrible)
For our 4th annual screening, we are excited to be returning to Cinema 21. This year, we will hold two screenings. The first screening will be open to all ages. Doors open at 3PM. We are very excited to announce that Portland’s second screening will be the first ever Special Hell showing of Serenity. Have you ever wanted to shout your favorite lines at the screen? This is your chance! Doors for the second show will open at 10:30 PM. Cinema 21 now serves beer and wine, so the late show will be 21 and older. The fun doesn’t stop there, though. As we did in 2006, we will be teaming up with the Gypsy to bring you a pub quiz, costume contest, and Dr. Horrible’s Sing-a-Long Blog Karaoke! Come to the early screening, stay for the fun at the Gypsy, and come back to have your say at the second show! Special guest Scott Allie, Joss Whedon’s editor at Dark Horse Comics, will join us at our screening to talk about his work on the Serenity comics. Tickets are onsale now through Cinema 21 – Early screening (all ages): $10 advance / $12 at door, Special Hell screening (21+): $12 advance / $14 at door, or buy tickets for both screenings for $18 advance / $22 at door.

Vancouver, BC CA – 27 June (Serenity & Dr. Horrible)
CSTS Vancouver will be on Saturday, June 27th from 11 am to 6 pm, at the HR MacMillan Space Centre. On top of screening Serenity, singing along to Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog (and the Commentary), playing Firefly Trivia Bingo and a costume contest – we have some great items for the Silent Auction (cash only). Prizes include Complete dinner for four, prepared by John from La Fontana, Two gift certificates for introductory 8-session course on sword fighting from Academie Duello, a three-day/two-night stay at the Marriott Whistler Residence Inn, Serenity poster signed by Joss Whedon, Smallville autographed script, plus a range of fantastic items autographed by Jewel Staite, Adam Baldwin, Gred Edmonson and more! This is going to be one of our best events yet, so don’t miss out! Tickets are just $15 and are available via Paypal or cash from Happy Bats Cinema or from the event team. 20% of the net proceeds will be going to the BC Women’s Hospital, with the other 80% to Equality Now.

Austin, TX US – 28 June (Serenity & Dr. Horrible)
The Austin Browncoats present Austin Can’t Stop the Serenity 2009 at the Alamo Drafthouse Lake Creek in Austin, TX on June 28th, 2009 at 12:00 PM, 5:00 PM, and 10:00 PM. Tickets are still available for the 10pm show, and are sold out for the 12pm and 5pm shows. Tickets are $15 Early Bird or $18 at the Door (click here to buy tickets). All proceeds will go to Equality Now and the Kids Need To Read Foundation. Each session is a double feature of Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog and Serenity, both written and directed by Joss Whedon. We’ll have a raffle of amazing prizes from local and international vendors, as well as an auction of autographed items. Alamo Lake Creek will provide a special themed menu to enjoy during the event, which will also include a costume contest. Tickets are selling fast for this great event, so don’t miss out!

New York City, NY US – 28 June (Serenity)
The Browncoats of New York City will be presenting CSTS NYC at the historic St. Mark’s Church in-the-Bowery from 3-8pm. Dinner, Dance & Entertainment will feature in this fantastic event, with all proceeds to benefit Equality Now. Admission will include a buffet style dinner, live guest performances, music & dancing with professional instruction/demonstration, as well as auctions & give-aways! Tickets are available now through Brown Paper Tickets, with 3 ticket levels to choose from – $35 Passenger Ticket, $50 Crew Ticket (includes special event souvenirs) or $75 Captain Ticket (includes a special t-shirt just for our Captains). Fancy dress or themed costumes are encouraged but not required. There are some amazing auction items, cunningly grouped by character including 2 Equality Now hats signed by Joss Whedon, a toolbox signed by Jewel Staite, and Jayne’s rain stick (replica). You won’t want to miss the fun in NYC!

Raleigh, NC US – 28 & 29 June (Serenity)
The North Carolina Browncoats are pleased to announce the screening of Serenity on June 28th and 29th 2009. The screening will be at the Raleighwood Cinema Grill, located in the Falls Village Shopping Center. The doors will open at 6:00pm, with the show starting at 7:30PM. Sunday Night’s event will feature a costume contest, so come as your favorite character and win prizes! New for this year is a new category – Best Original Character. Why try to be one of the favorites when you can stand out? The contest will be held on Sunday night only. Monday night will be a brain teaser, with a trivia contest before the screening that includes questions from both Serenity and Firefly. So get those DVDs out and get ready for some crazy competition! There are also some fantastic items up for grabs at both events, including lithographs signed by Nathan Fillion (Sun), Jewel Staite (Sun), Morena Baccarin (Mon) and Adam Baldwin (Mon). So get along to both shows for your chance to win these and more amazing prizes!

San Francisco, CA US – 30 June (Serenity & Dr. Horrible)
The San Francisco Browncoat’s fourth annual Can’t Stop the Serenity charity movie screening of Serenity and for the first time on the big screen in San Francisco, Dr Horrible’s Sing Along Blog. This special evening will benefit Equality Now. This fantastic event will take place at the Victoria Theatre at 7:00pm (doors 6:30pm). Tickets are on sale now from the venue for $12 (+$1.80 service charge). Come in costume, as there will be a Dr Horrible and Serenity Costume Contest, plus a prize drawing with lots of great prizes including a Serenity poster signed by Joss Whedon himself!
