Pennsylvania Browncoats’ CSTS Screening Breaks Atmo’ This Saturday Night!

(Note: this is an outdoor event — think old-fashioned drive-in, but without the cars — so bring your own chairs!)

CSTS Logos 2006 - 2018Since 2006, Can’t Stop The Serenity has raised over one million dollars for Equality Now. We can do even more good works in 2019, but only if people show up! That’s where you can come in. The annual promotional artwork is a critical tool for raising awareness about the event, building excitement, and getting people out to CSTS events around the world. It tells people that we are back for another year. And we know there are lots of creative Browncoats out there with the skills to make this happen!

Please Join Us in Extending a Hand of Welcome to Your 2019 Global Event Coordinator, Charlie Fitch!

The Global Event Coordinator (“GEC”) directs the year’s events, and works closely with his/her team to successfully facilitate events across the globe.  The GEC reports directly to the Global Steering Committee and is responsible for coordinating the Global Team and, among other things, is responsible for:

  • Directing the year’s global efforts, maintaining the integrity and purpose of CSTS for the year
  • Building and supporting the Global Team
  • Supporting local event organizers

Charlie comes to us as a member of the Albuquerque Browncoats and successful CSTS organizer.  He was a member of the Global Team in 2016, and feels that Can’t Stop the Serenity is important because: “The cause is so very worthy. The 2018 year came to an end with astounding success on the part of Can’t Stop The Serenity. Once again, events large and small raised money for Equality Now and other charities.

You can check out all the details here but in brief, $43,806.53 was raised in 18 events.

A Warm Welcome to our New Steering Committee Members.

We are delighted to announce that we have two new members on the Global Steering Committee! Please join us in welcoming Matt Black and Cheryl Mattson!

Serving as an executive and consistency committee, the Global Steering Committee (GSC) is responsible for maintaining the high standards and reputation of CSTS, and is a repository of CSTS knowledge for the Global Team and Local Event Organizers.

We also support the Global Event Coordinator (GEC), can step in if the GEC is unable to continue in that capacity or needs additional help, and we provide a recourse for Local Event Organizers if they have issues that need additional support beyond the Global Team. The GSC is made up of members with lots of experience with CSTS at a global and local level, and who are passionate about CSTS.… Read more…

The Kansas City Browncoats are holding their 8th CSTS event (and lucky last for the 2018 season) on Monday 29th October.

Organiser Michael says “We will be showing Serenity and Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog at Liberty Hall. Doors open at 6:30pm so people can grab their drinks and snacks and pick up some raffle tickets before the screening starts at 7pm.

So grab a pint and join the crew of the Serenity on the outskirts of space for their final adventure. Hope to see a few fellow Browncoats there.”

It’s no Con (Man) in Pittsburgh this weekend

With your help, they can add still more to that total at their affiliate event this Saturday, October 6 at The Flying Squirrel in Carnegie, PA. 

Organiser Christopher says “My brothers and I are huge fans of Joss Whedon and his work, so it’s an honor being able to celebrate his work while at the same time “doin’ good works” for an organization like Equality Now that helps women who otherwise wouldn’t have anyone championing their cause.”

Ten years of doing good works in Orange County

The California Browncoats are holding their tenth Can’t Stop the Serenity events this Saturday, 6th October, at the AMC Classic Woodbridge Movies Theater in Irvine, CA (the same place as past years’ events).

 

Starting at 2:15pm, they’ll have prize drawings, a live auction of shiny items, and merchandise for sale as well as a screening of the Big Damn Movie. As always, cosplay fun is welcome and they will have a small door prize for everyone who dresses up as a character from the ‘Verse! Things will wrap up around 6:00ish.

All proceeds will go to Equality now and tickets are available at Brown Paper Tickets for $17.

No disreputable men in Arcata this weekend

In their rather enviable position on the Northern California coast, between the redwoods and the ocean, the Humboldt Browncoats will be throwing their Can’t Stop the Serenity shindig on 30th September at the Arcata Theatre Lounge.

Organiser Craig says “Our celebration starts at 5 p.m. Folks can enjoy a pint of Mudder’s Milk and partake in trivia contest for great prizes, including the Big Damn Board Game (complete with expansions) and a pair of the famous talking dinosaurs!

“In recent years, we’ve been able to boast that the equivalent of 1% of our entire town have attended Can’t Stop the Serenity in Arcata! (Our town has 16,700 folks, so with 168 attendees, that’s 1%!).”

She Don’t Like Firefly in Pennsylvania

This Sunday 23rd Sept the Delaware Valley Brigade of the Pennsylvania Browncoats is holding their Philly shindig from 2pm until 6pm at the Rotunda in Philadelphia.

Organiser Matt says “Our shindig will include the music of comedy rock star Mikey Mason (mikeymason.com) of “She Don’t Like Firefly” fame. He’s a self proclaimed comedy monster, a naughty cartoon character, an experiment gone wonderfully wrong. He’s the psycho stalker ex-boyfriend of comedy, except that you want to see him again. And again. And again.

There will also be trivia, raffles, and other ways we aim to misbehave, while happily doing good works. All proceeds of the event go to Equality Now.”

13 years of doin’ good works in North Texas

The North Texas Browncoats are about to hold their 13th annual shindig! On Sunday 23rd September, doors will open at midday for an afternoon of trivia, auctions and of course a screening of the Big Damn Movie.

They’re also going to be showing Dr. Horrible and will be having an evil laugh competition, so you had better start practicing!
